We’ve had a bit of a hard time getting traffic to our site. In responses, we’ve resorted to anything we can think of to get people to come. One highly questionable tactic we used was to join a Yahoo club devoted to the TV show The Bachelorette. Our original plan was to join the club, ask people to come visit our site, and pretty much leave it at that. But we started making posts to the mailing list, mouthing off about this and that, and generally having a good time. Admittedly, getting into pissing matches over email with highly emotional people who joined a Yahoo groups to chat about The Bachelorette is not exactly the most mature, kind-hearted, or constructive thing we could have done with our time. We know that. Nevertheless, we think, as a whole, it was benign enough and the result was kind of funny.

We plan on doing more of this in the future, because it’s fun. Our general rule is to be willing to antagonize, but never to be vindictive -- to offend but never to really say anything offensive. We’ll also try and lay off if we feel we’re making anyone feel bad. We’ll also delete any last names or email addresses in the replies we get to make them anonymous.
